The incident, captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread public condemnation. The operation was conducted without a valid search warrant, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Maj. Hazel Asilo, NCRPO spokesperson, confirmed that the commander of Taguig police sub-station 5, along with nine other officers, has been relieved from duty. The commander was dismissed for command responsibility, while the other officers were found to have participated in the illegal search operation.
"They conducted a warrantless search. That’s illegal," Asilo said, emphasizing that the officers failed to present a legitimate warrant while searching for a supposed drug suspect.
The CCTV footage showed one officer shoving the elderly woman in front of two minors while presenting a questionable document. The woman, visibly distressed, was later seen jumping from a police vehicle to escape after realizing they were not heading toward the barangay hall as initially claimed by the officers.
Seven officers were directly involved in the operation, with two others serving as reinforcements. Asilo assured the public that the officers will be held accountable following the investigation.
The incident sparked outrage among netizens, with many criticizing the police's aggressive actions and the apparent disregard for legal protocols. Authorities have vowed to take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and restore public trust in law enforcement.
