Taguig City has launched a major initiative to provide direct financial support to its residents with disabilities, beginning the house-to-house distribution of its Special Needs Assistance for Persons with Disability (PWDs). This effort is currently delivering an additional ₱2,000 in cash aid to 35,522 registered beneficiaries across the city.
The assistance is rooted in City Ordinance No. 194, which mandates cash grants of ₱1,000 every July and another ₱1,000 every December for all registered PWDs.
A Program Built on Care and Inclusion
Mayor Lani Cayetano, joined by Councilors Ed Prado and Bing Villamor, personally led the ceremonial distribution on Monday, October 7, in Barangay South Signal. They were assisted by dedicated personnel from the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
Expressing her joy over the program's success, Mayor Cayetano said, "This is truly a blessing for the City of Taguig. I thank our Lord for His many blessings and, of course, our taxpayers and our citizens."
The immediate impact of the aid was felt by recipients like Nicasio Baes Jr., whose wife, Merly, represented him to receive the assistance. Merly highlighted the significance of the financial help, stating, "I am happy because this is a big thing, a big help for him [because] he has many needs. This program by the Mayor is a big amount."
Ensuring Continuous Support
The Special Needs Assistance program is designed to provide crucial financial relief, promote inclusion, and embody Taguig's vision as a Transformative, Lively, and Caring City. The goal is to ensure that all citizens, regardless of ability, can live fulfilling and independent lives, strengthening their social and economic participation.
To qualify for the assistance, beneficiaries must be Taguig residents, aged 0 to 59 years old, and be officially registered in the Taguig City Person with Disability Registry maintained by the PDAO.
