The Taguig City government is reinforcing disaster preparedness across its educational institutions, distributing Emergency Go-Bags to 52 public schools to ensure that teachers and students are ready to respond swiftly and safely during calamities.
Mayor Lani Cayetano led the ceremonial distribution of the Emergency Go-Bags on October 6, 2025, at Pembo Elementary School in Barangay Pembo. She was joined by Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit, Taguig-Pateros Congressman Ricardo “Ading” Cruz Jr., Taguig 2nd District Rep. Jorge Bocobo, and members of the City Council.
Essential Supplies for Survival
Each Go-Bag is packed with essential items crucial for both natural and man-made disasters, including a flashlight, whistle, first-aid supplies, alcohol, masks, and a printed set of emergency guidelines.
In her message to the attendees, Mayor Cayetano emphasized the importance of preparation and collective responsibility in saving lives.
“We are gathered here today for one particular purpose — that is to ensure that inside the school, in the middle of an emergency, disaster, man-made or natural, there are Go-Bags that our students can grab so they can survive any eventuality,” the Mayor stated.
Mayor Cayetano drew a powerful analogy to the biblical story of Noah, who built the Ark before the flood came, to illustrate the city’s proactive philosophy.
“There was no flood when Noah built the Ark. There was no rain yet, but he was already acting. Because he knows that true care does not wait for a problem before showing concern,” she said, underscoring that true care involves anticipating the needs of the people before a disaster strikes.
Welcomed by School Officials and Teachers
Pembo Elementary School Principal Ryan De Una expressed gratitude, calling the project timely and vital for the protection of students.
“Truly, this project of our City of Taguig is timely and relevant. Foremost is the welfare of the citizens, particularly the youth in our schools. They will directly benefit from the excellent project of our city. Thank you very much because this is a huge help in times of need,” said Principal De Una.
Teachers also welcomed the initiative, noting the kits will enable them to act systematically during emergencies.
“This is very important because we do not know when a disaster will strike. When a Go-Bag is ready, we can attend to the safety of the children faster and fulfill our duties as teachers more smoothly,” shared teacher Miraflor Inarda.
The Go-Bag initiative is designed to strengthen disaster-response protocols taught during school drills, such as the "Drop, Cover, and Hold" technique during earthquakes, and organized evacuation and first-aid response afterward. It serves as a reminder that preparedness is the best defense.
Mayor Cayetano concluded that the program is a part of Taguig’s Transformative, Lively, and Caring (TLC) City Agenda, promoting a culture of readiness and care for the community. “The Go Bag is not just a bag — it is a symbol of our readiness, safety, and hope,” she added.
