The newly reopened Taguig People's Park, formerly known as the Makati Park and Garden, has officially opened its gates to the public after more than a year of closure due to jurisdictional and legal disputes.

The park, located along the southern bank of the Pasig River in Barangays Cembo and West Rembo, spans over 3.5 hectares and is now under the full administration of the Taguig City Parks & Recreation Office.

First developed in 1994 and inaugurated in 1998 by the City of Makati, the park had long served as a green oasis and bird sanctuary in the urban jungle. It features landscaped gardens, a small lake, man-made waterfalls, the Makati Aqua Sports Arena, and the once-iconic Bonifacio monument, which was removed in 2017 due to infrastructure works.

Following the 2022 Supreme Court ruling that granted jurisdiction of the Embo barangays to Taguig, the park’s control was eventually contested. On March 3, 2024, Taguig issued a closure order citing lack of permits and legal possession. After months of legal battles, the Taguig Regional Trial Court granted a Temporary Restraining Order on May 5, 2025, allowing Taguig to take exclusive possession of the park and other public facilities within its jurisdiction.

Now rebranded as Taguig People’s Park, the local government envisions the space as a vital recreational hub that will serve the wellness, environmental, and cultural needs of the Embo communities. Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the park's reopening as a symbol of healing and unity: “This park is for the people—clean, green, and open to everyone who needs a place to breathe, to play, and to connect with nature.”

The park is open daily, with upgraded security, improved maintenance, and renewed efforts to turn it into a premier urban sanctuary for Taguigeños and visitors alike.
