Commuters in southern Metro Manila are one step closer to seamless travel as Filinvest Land officially turned over a 6,000-square-meter property in Bicutan to the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The land will host a massive transit interchange connecting two of the country’s most ambitious railway networks.

The future Bicutan Station will bridge the 147-kilometer North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) and the Metro Manila Subway. By uniting both lines under one roof, the integrated station will allow passengers to transfer directly between systems, eliminating the need for tedious multi-modal transfers.

Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to drastically slice travel times for thousands of daily commuters moving across Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and Calabarzon.

All-Weather Pedestrian Connections

To further improve commuter mobility, Filinvest announced plans to construct a dedicated pedestrian link from the station to its nearby properties. The infrastructure will feature an elevated footbridge spanning the East Service Road, alongside a covered walkway. The developer noted that this design ensures commuters can transition between transport terminals and train platforms while remaining fully protected from unpredictable weather.

A Catalyst for Southern Luzon Jobs

Beyond easing traffic gridlock, the project serves as a major economic driver for the region. Filinvest stated that the 5.8-kilometer railway segment covering the Bicutan and Sucat stations is projected to generate roughly 350,000 direct and indirect jobs. Employment opportunities will span engineering, construction, rail operations, maintenance, and retail sectors.

Construction for the Bicutan Station is slated for completion by 2031. Full system operations are expected to launch by 2033, at which point the integrated network is projected to serve approximately one million passengers every day.
