The City of Taguig, under the leadership of Mayor Lani Cayetano and the City Health Office, launched Safe Motherhood Week with a successful Buntis Congress held at Taguig City University on May 13.

The event underscored the city's unwavering commitment to supporting expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy journey.

“Mapagmahal at mapagkalinga ang City of Taguig. Gusto namin na malusog kayo sa inyong pagbubuntis–sa delivery, maging sa recovery ninyo at inyong mga babies,” Mayor Lani Cayetano expressed, emphasizing the city's dedication to the health and well-being of mothers and their babies.

The congress saw the participation of around 500 pregnant women, including many first-time mothers, who gathered to receive essential information on safe motherhood. Healthcare professionals, including doctors and midwives, led discussions on various crucial topics.

The event also showcased the array of local services and programs designed to support mothers. These included local birth registration, deworming, post-partum psychosis, educational opportunities for young mothers, and family planning.

Highlights included facility-based deliveries, a comprehensive breastfeeding program, and the availability of teleconsultations and telemedicine services through the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital and Super Health Centers.

Attendees of the congress benefited from several free services. The local government unit (LGU) sponsored PhilHealth assistance, anti-tetanus vaccinations, and blood bank services. Additionally, the participants received generous loot bags containing 5 kilos of rice, essentials for childbirth such as diapers, sanitary napkins, baby bibs, baby oil, and alcohol, as well as educational materials on motherhood.

The Buntis Congress marks a significant step in the City of Taguig’s efforts to ensure that expectant mothers have access to the necessary resources and support. Through initiatives like these, the city aims to promote the health and safety of both mothers and their babies, ensuring a brighter future for the community.

As Safe Motherhood Week continues, the City of Taguig reaffirms its commitment to providing compassionate and comprehensive care for all mothers, further strengthening the support network within the community.
