In a move aimed at streamlining bureaucratic hurdles and enhancing employment opportunities, the City of Taguig has abolished the requirement for job applicants to obtain a Mayor's permit or clearance from private employers.

The enactment of Ordinance No. 109 on December 18, 2023, by the Taguig Sangguniang Panlungsod marks a pivotal step towards easing the burden on job seekers, self-employed individuals, and professionals seeking employment within the city. This ordinance exempts such individuals from the obligation of securing a Mayor's permit or clearance as a prerequisite for employment.

The amendment to the Taguig Tax Revenue Code underscores the municipality's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for its workforce. By alleviating the administrative burden placed on job applicants, the ordinance aims to expedite the hiring process and eliminate unnecessary expenses incurred by individuals seeking employment opportunities in Taguig.

Moreover, the decision to waive the Mayor's permit requirement aligns with Taguig's overarching policy objectives, particularly in promoting fair and equitable employment practices as mandated by Section 16 of the Local Government Code of 1991. By facilitating access to employment opportunities, the municipality seeks to uphold the principles of social justice and equal opportunity for all its residents.

Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the municipality's dedication to safeguarding labor rights and fostering a conducive environment for economic growth. "Our commitment is anchored in the constitutional mandate to provide full protection to labor and to promote full employment and equality of employment opportunities for all," stated Mayor Cayetano. "We strive to simplify processes, making them more accessible for individuals contributing to Taguig's vibrant workforce."

The initiative to waive the Mayor's permit requirement underscores Taguig's proactive approach towards enhancing its business environment and promoting sustainable economic development. By eliminating bureaucratic impediments, the municipality aims to attract investments, stimulate job creation, and bolster the overall competitiveness of its labor market.

As Taguig continues to prioritize the welfare of its workforce, such initiatives are poised to drive economic prosperity and social advancement in the years to come.
