The schedule for Taguig River Festival 2023 events has been announced.
The pagoda at Taguig River returns and other events in celebration of the Taguig River Festival from July 25 to 26, 2023.
Taguig River Festival 2023 Schedule of Events
The Regatta or boat race will take place on July 25, a day also dedicated to grandparents. The event will feature a brass band exhibition, Street Dance, Tribute to Taguig Fishermen and Farmers, and the Pagoda on the River or parade of a variety of boats on July 26.
The Taguig River Festival, originally known as the Santa Anang Banak Taguig River Festival, is celebrated annually as a way to give thanks for the blessings received by the residents of Taguig.
According to history, the patron saint of Taguig, Saint Anne, mother of Mary, gathered the "taga-giik" or rice harvesters by the river in 1587 when they lost their harvest. In the river, they reportedly found an abundance of lobed river mullet or banak, which became food for the harvesters. Every July in the following years, the Taguig river was always reportedly full of banak.
As trade, the last tosses back dried merchandise to them. This demonstration, known as "pasubo" at that point turned into a cheerful merriment that is praised as of not long ago every July 26.
