In a heartwarming display of unity and community spirit, the City of Taguig and education stakeholders kicked off  Brigada Eskwela in the schools across the EMBO barangays

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano was given a warm and enthusiastic welcome as she joined hands with officials from the Department of Education, school principals, teachers, students, parents, and volunteers to start the program.

Commencing at the Makati Science High School, the Brigada Eskwela initiative brought together a team of volunteers, including those from the Taguig City Police Station, National Capital Region Police Office, Southern Police District, Bureau of Fire Protection, as well as representatives from various groups and organizations in the EMBO barangays.

Mayor Lani Cayetano, a staunch advocate for education and community development, underscored the importance of unity and the objectives of Brigada Eskwela.

Mayor Lani emphasized that the Local Government Unit is committed to supporting the EMBO Schools in their opening school year.

She appealed to the General Parents Teachers Association officers and members for understanding and patience as the transition takes place, and vowed to work closely with the school heads and division officials to address the urgent concerns of teachers and students.

"Marubdob at masigasig akong makikipag-ugnayan sa mga opisyal ng Department of Education upang masiguro ko na sa pagbubukas ng school year iyong mga pangamba po ninyo, yung mga agam-agam po ninyo, yung mga katanungan po ninyo, unti unting masasagot, malilinawan, at matutugunan," she said.

She added that Taguig Government has already prepared school kits which will be distributed to the students soon.

Mayor Lani also thanked the Philippine National Police for not tolerating the action of the barangay captain who asked his constituents to block roads leading to the schools, and for ordering the immediate removal of the barricades, which would have only disrupted the important event.

For his part, Makati Science High School principal Dr. Felix T. Bunagan, expressed his gratitude to Mayor Lani, the City of Taguig and all the volunteers, for their support in the Brigada Eskwela.

Taguig-Pateros School’s Division Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Ayles was also present during the kick-off ceremony. She stressed that Brigada Eskwela will aid the DepEd’s goal to foster a community that is proactive for its students and instill patriotism to our country.

Volunteers enthusiastically engaged in various tasks, such as cleaning, repairing, and enhancing the schools' facilities. Talks on Positive Discipline and Family Values, Drug Abuse Prevention & Control, Learners’ Rights, and Mental Health, among others, were also conducted as part of Brigada.

After visiting Makati Science High School, Mayor Lani  went to Fort Bonifacio High School and Fort Bonifacio Elementary School, where principals, teachers, students, parents and volunteers from the community also welcomed her with open arms.

The volunteers went around  the other EMBO schools transferred to Taguig in light of the Supreme Court decision on the City's territorial dispute with Makati.

The officials of Comembo Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Pembo Elementary School, Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino High School, Tibagan High School, Fort Bonifacio Elementary School, Fort Bonifacio High School, Pitogo Elementary School, Pitogo High School, Cembo Elementary School, East Rembo Elementary School, West Rembo Elementary School and South Cembo Elementary School also expressed their appreciation for Taguig Mayor Lani’s support for the Brigada Eskwela 2023.

All the school officials have been in talks with Mayor Lani and other city officials to plan and synchronize their efforts on the first day of Brigada Eskwela and the opening of classes. They vowed to work together and learn from each other's best practices, which they agreed would benefit the students, parents, teachers, and personnel alike.
