In a major step toward digital inclusion, Taguig City has officially launched "ConnecTaguig," a free public Wi-Fi program that will connect hundreds of thousands of residents to high-speed internet across 60 key locations in the city.
During the activation ceremony on Friday, the city simultaneously launched Wi-Fi hotspots in 28 barangay halls, 31 health centers, 3 Super Health Centers, and six other public spaces:
- Taguig City University (TCU)
- Taguig City Hall
- Lakeshore Hall
- Mercado Del Lago
- TLC Park
- Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH)
Bridging the Digital Divide
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized that internet access is a powerful tool for education, communication, and economic growth.
“The Internet can be a great equalizer. We know it can truly empower our citizens if we give them access to it and help them use it as a channel for awareness and positive change.”
With ConnecTaguig, residents will enjoy up to 90 minutes of free internet per device daily, the longest duration offered by any local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila. This surpasses the 30-minute to 1-hour limit provided by other LGUs.
Residents can easily access the free Wi-Fi by following these steps:
1. Connect to the “ConnecTAGUIG-iloveTAGUIG” network.
2. Accept the terms of use in the pop-up window.
3. Click “Connect” and start browsing after reaching the city's official Facebook page (I Love Taguig).
Transforming Public Spaces with Internet Access
The program is expected to provide Wi-Fi access to more than 200,000 residents daily, with each location supporting up to 2,500 users per day. The service will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Mayor Cayetano highlighted how ConnecTaguig will benefit different sectors of the community:
Education: Students at Taguig City University can enhance their research and learning with seamless internet access.
Healthcare: Patients and visitors at health centers and hospitals can stay informed while waiting for medical assistance.
Business & Social Media: Stay-at-home parents can explore online businesses, while content creators and advocates can use the platform to reach wider audiences.
Government Services: Visitors at City Hall and barangay halls can browse online while waiting for their transactions.
Recreation & Socialization: Public areas like Lakeshore Hall, Mercado del Lago, and TLC Park will offer internet access for families and groups enjoying their time outdoors.
As an added feature, digital kiosks will be installed at selected locations to display city updates, announcements, hotline numbers, and advisories.
Expanding Digital Connectivity
Taguig City also announced that all public schools will soon be equipped with free Wi-Fi under the ConnecTaguig program before the start of the next school year. This initiative aligns with the city's commitment to enhancing digital literacy and accessibility for students.
With this latest development, Taguig is setting a new standard for public Wi-Fi access, reinforcing its vision of becoming a digitally connected and empowered community.
